Reasons to Join the YMC
Apart from the obvious reasons for joining a club, ie. meeting others with common interests, camaraderie, maintaining motivation, benefiting from the experience of others, etc, there are some particular benefits of becoming a member of the YMC.
- The YMC welcomes participants in all aspects of mountaineering eg. rock, snow and ice climbing, hill walking, back-packing, orienteering, fell running, skiing etc.
- The YMC welcomes both single and family members.
- Use of the Club's Lake District accommodation.
- Reduced fees when using the accommodation.
- Access to the YMC Library.
- Full membership includes insurance cover with BMC Third Party Liability Insurance.
- Concessionary rates on YMC Guide Books purchased directly from the Club.
- Discounts at many Outdoor Sports Shops on production of a valid Membership Card.
- A bi-monthly news letter containing details of forthcoming events, reports of meetings, Club news, articles of interest and Meet Reports.
- An outdoor meeting arranged for many weekends throughout the year.
- A mid-week climbing or climbing wall meeting arranged periodically on Wednesday evenings.
- Other social events arranged from time to time.
How to Join the YMC
Who Can Join the YMC? Anyone over the age of 16 may become a member of the Club if they are keen on mountaineering and have the interests of the Club at heart.
How Much Does it Cost?

Prospective Membership As a Prospective Member you will:
- Receive the Club's bi-monthly newsletter giving you the details of forthcoming events.
- Be able to use the YMC's hut in the Lake District, provided that you are accompanied by a Full Member of the Club. (Charged at the Guest rate.)
- Attend any Club event during the period of your Prospective Membership.
Full Membership To qualify for Full Membership of the club you must attend a minimum of four Club meets, including a 'maintainance' meet at the club's Lake District hut, during the period of your Prospective Membership. Following this two members of the club must be willing to propose and second your application for membership of the club. The proposer will apply by sending a letter of introduction to the Membership Secretary. The application will then be submitted to the Committee for consideration of your membership of the Club.

To become a Prospective Member of the YMC please print an application form and after completing it, return it together with the appropriate remittance to the Membership Secretary.
